An article entitled ” Stephen Bittel’s Terranova Buys Corner Property On Miracle Mile In Coral Gables”, talks about how Stephen Bittel’s Terranova Corporation sees the continued value of urban development in South Florida amidst Coronavirus pandemic.
Stephen Bittel is a successful entrepreneur who founded and built his company, Terranova Corporation, from an idea into a multi-million-dollar enterprise with diverse holdings. Born in 1946 in Philadelphia, Bittel attended Temple University.
In 1967 he moved to Miami and in 1968 he cofounded the UFI International Restaurant Chain, which was later sold to General Mills for $207 million.
Bittel is a recognized expert on corporate acquisitions of small companies for large corporations, he played a major role in such transactions as Burger King’s 1986 acquisition of Hardee’s Restaurants. He also sold the Trans World Airlines Helicopter Line for $48 million. Bittel currently resides in Miami with his wife and children.
“I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” says Bittel, “and I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur from the time I was a little boy.” He says that from the time he was twelve years old, he had his own business—selling lemonade on the corner of a street on weekends and during summer vacations. In fact, his childhood ambition was to be a tycoon. “I’ve never thought of myself as being a big executive,” he admits. “I always dreamed of being the owner.”
The son of an immigrant Orthodox rabbi and his wife, Stephen Bittel says that many of his childhood hours were spent on the streets selling things—anything from newspapers to candy and fruitcakes. “It’s amazing how important those early lessons about money and the value of that for you as a person have been,” he says. “They taught me what was important.”
In Bittel’s first job after working his way through Temple, he was hired as a manager of a towing company in Miami. In 1970, he took over the company and soon thereafter began to expand it into other fields. He started with an expanding facility doing marine and salvage work. Visit this page for more information.
