Education
Randy Douthit graduated from the University of Florida in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in theater. In 1986 he earned his master’s degree in business administration at the Anderson School at UCLA.
Creative career
Douthit was employed by the Walt Disney Company in 1974 as a cost accountant but was soon promoted to a management position overseeing the development and launch of the first Disney Stores. He held many posts within the company, including director of financial planning and marketing. In 1985, he began writing professionally and started serving as a consultant to corporations involved with children’s entertainment, developing new concepts for companies such as DreamWorks SKG, Sony Wonder, and Columbia Tri-Star Home Video.
Achievements
Douthit is a frequent speaker at conferences and events. He was inducted into the International Association of Cost Accountants Hall of Distinction in 2003, and in 2006 he received the Disney Legends award. For seven years, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. In 1999, he left Disney to become the producer of the Disney Store magazine. He is now a consultant on children’s entertainment issues and teaches courses on empowering young people to take charge of their lives through technology.
Awards
In 2000, Douthit was given a Vanguard Award for his contributions to the field of education.
For more than 20 years, he has been honored by the New York Foundation for the Arts and its Museum without Walls program as a guest speaker and educator.
