Activist Investor Jason Hope

Jason Hope:  My father was a doctor and my mother was an inventor with dozens of patents from Ethical Culture Fieldston School. My family immigrated to New York from South Africa to escape apartheid. I was the first member of my family to get into Harvard and all four years I attended I lived off campus in student housing at the edge of Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I was in the same building as Bill Gates and two years later I was working with him at Microsoft. Dr Conley:  Jason Hope, What inspired you to become a leader?  How did the idea of doing business in America come about?

Activist Investor Jason Hope:  I took a year off College after graduating to help build my mom’s invention. She used it to make brass door handles for hardware stores. It was a nickel disc mounted in brass that had hooks inside it so that it could hang on any doorknob. It was an idea that she got from Ethical Culture School but she couldn’t get a patent on it at the time, but I think it should have been.
