Alejandro Pena Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week by Constructing a Food Forest

Keter company specializes in making outdoor furniture and storage solutions that include garden beds, durable deck boxes and other all-weather pieces of furniture. Alejandro Pena, the company’s CEO, recently donated more than 25 items, including storage sheds and garden beds, to North Miami Elementary School in Florida. The furniture company is a renowned sustainability frontrunner in the industry, aiming to increase efforts towards a greener world. In addition to using virgin resources, the company manufactures fully recyclable furniture and avoids waste at each stage of production.

The company led by Pena recently founded the Keter Green Spaces initiative dedicated to making communities greener via education and connection. Keter started this program during Teacher Appreciation Week at North Miami Elementary School as a gratitude to the tutors. The CEO termed the initiative an outdoor class focused on educating children about biology, botany, environmental stewardship and nutrition. In addition, the furniture business joined hands with the Food Forest for Schools program to remodel the school’s garden, overseen by the Education Fund of Miami-Dade County.

During the launch, it was a joy for the audience to see Alejandro Pena and volunteers from the Education Fund going into the school’s garden carrying the furniture company’s innovative furniture and storage products. The volunteers put deck boxes at strategic positions, leaving more seating and storage space. They also placed storage decks in the remaining spaces for stashing trash before installing Keter’s Adirondack chairs to complete the set-up.

As the volunteers worked to develop the food forest, the school children curiously assessed various tomato plant roots. An interior designer, Sabrina Soto, walked around the garden explaining to them what interior design involves and how to get into the fun yet lucrative career. She also provided insight into how she comes up with her design ideas. While Soto advised the students to engage with the garden continuously, schoolteachers embarked on teaching them how to plant seeds.
