The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) was based in 1984 by the State of New York as a public advantage corporation with an end goal of organizing, designing, advancing, overseeing, and keeping up Roosevelt Island. Centered on forward-thinking and eco-friendly strategies, RIOC is devoted to giving administrations that upgrade the island’s residential area. RIOC manages the two-mile-long island’s roads, parks, structures, a games office, and open transport incorporating the famous aerial tramway. Besides, RIOC works as a Public Safety Department that helps keep a protected and secure climate for citizens, laborers, business owners, and vacationers. RIOC chief executive Shelton J. Haynes appointed office assistant Aida Morales to the newly established chief of staff position.
The specialized law enforcement officers, part of the Public Safety Department (PSD), is appointed by the Police Commissioner of the City of New York as stated in Section 2.20 of the Criminal Procedure Law, which sanctions them to serve as peace enforcers. The PSD department is a subsection of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), a State public benefit agency in charge of managing certain services for the island and planning its future progress.
PSD helps apply all State and Municipal ordinances, including those concerning traffic, as well as parts of the Penal Legislation, Criminal Treatment Law, and Vehicle and Traffic Laws related to Roosevelt Island. Officers are educated in these laws and rules, apprehension laws, and an individual’s Constitutional privileges. Aida Morales and PSD officers have been given extensive training for awareness about bias offenses and crimes involving sexual abuse or nuisance.
Aside from guaranteeing the well-being of individuals on Roosevelt Island, the Public Safety Department is responsible for shielding the Island’s assets, including all public buildings, retail stores, and certain contractual housing structures. PSD endeavors to support the life standard on Roosevelt Island by administering Island principles and measures and collaborating tightly with community associations devoted to ensuring that the island remains secure and agreeable for everybody.
The reach of the Public Safety Department is mapped out by laws and regulations implemented over the City and State; however, our offerings to Roosevelt Island residents frequently transcend those of the normal Police Officer. The division’s aim resembles that of an antiquated constable on a prowl. While adhering to the law, each attendant is urged to recognize and relish the Roosevelt Island population and its singular inhabitants.
